After Hurricane Sandy flooded his metalwork shop, artist Scott Van Campen decided to rebuild—for the community. With the help of fellow artist DB Lampman, MakerSpace has grown into a neighborhood facility to support individual entrepreneurship and sustain artists, engineers, hobbyists and inventors. It houses metalwork and woodwork shops, a computer lab, sewing room, and open workspace. Makerspace also offers low-cost membership and skill building workshops for children and adults. Their first workshop, “Women, Welding and Wine” sold out in an less than one hour.
