100 Gates Project

What inspired you to create this website or entity?

The 100 Gates Project is 100% unique to New York City. The project, which is run by the Lower East Side Partnership, is a street art initiative that connects local artists with neighborhood businesses to install murals on roll down security gates located on the outside of businesses. The project began in the LES and has recently expanded to Staten Island and East Harlem. The mission of the neighborhood beautification project has remained true to its NYC roots of being locally focused and fully community driven. We looked no further than .nyc to make our mark on this city.

How does your website or entity represent or contribute to the local community or borough which you represent?

We contribute to the local community by beautifying the neighborhoods we work in with our site specific mural collaborations. Like minded artists and businesses are connected to work together and collaborate on a shared vision for the mural creative. The project has received tons of local and international press, helping raise the visibility of our local artist and business communities. We also work closely in concert with local NYPD precincts and receive their support of this project. We love providing small, paid jobs for local talent where artists can express themselves on giant canvases (gates) in the City that never sleeps.
