What inspired you to create this website or entity?
AND CO's mission is to empower and enable the independent economy. With 40% of the US workforce expected to be freelance by 2020, there is an urgent and pressing need to provide structure and support to a segment that has previously worked in a largely ad-hoc manner. AND CO fixes this by providing a fully integrated system designed to mimic and undergird the workflow of freelancers. Contracts, invoicing, time-tracking, expensing, task management, and income management are all included and all in intelligent communication, resulting in a great deal of saved time. The Future of Work will be defined by freelancers. In order to ensure that change happens smoothly and productively, it is imperative that the right infrastructure is in place. That necessity is what inspires us.
How does your website or entity represent or contribute to the local community or borough which you represent?
We have quite literally contributed to the city of New York through our advocacy work with the Freelancers Union to pass the "Freelance Isn't Free" Act. This act is designed to protect freelancers from non-payment (which effects 71% of independent workers), by requiring a contract for work over $800. In collaboration with the Freelancers Union, we created a Standard Freelance Contract based on the legislation. It can be found here: https://www.and.co/the-freelance-contract. It's been used throughout the city, protecting the freelancers that help our amazing metropolis thrive. On top of that, it's used around the world: we've brought the workers' rights of our metropolis to thousands.
