“Fashion is not just clothing, fashion is a lifestyle, it’s what’s happening, it’s the culture around you.” – David Leung
With over 25 year’s industry experience, David knows a thing or two about fashion. Working with some of the biggest names in the industry from Versace to Natori, David has spent his life recreating himself from high-end designer, to grad student, to professor, to mentor. Most recently, David has turned his attention to shaping talent for new generations as an adjunct instructor at the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Parsons School of Design. In David’s words, “You need to do something disruptive in order to move forward in life.”
True to his belief, David hasn’t shied away from change. Born in Hong Kong and having traveled the world for 13 years as a fashion designer, David settled in NYC in 2000 and has been there ever since. David says he’s always been known as “David from NY,” and when establishing his brand online he looked for something synonymous with his brand identity. His web address www.davidleung.nyc was an obvious choice.
David’s site is a portfolio of his brand, his passions, and his life story. His vast experience and diversified education make David not only a designer, but a “fashion & lifestyle architect.” What motivates David to continue to reinvent himself? According to David, “The most important thing is passion. Passion about what you do, passion about your friends, passion with family, and passion for the city you live in.” Now working in academia, David still consults on creative direction for fashion powerhouses as well as offers counsel for developing new brand identities and conducting market and cultural research.
